Excursions


The following Excursions will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday 7 September and must be pre-booked. Places are limited and strictly allocated on a first-come-first served basis. 

Visit to York

York is a cathedral city with Roman Origins, sited at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England. Its built on 2000 years of incredible history and has more attractions per square mile than anywhere else in the UK. York is home to many world-class museums, art galleries and other fun filled experiences for you to enjoy. Visit to Castleton and Treak Cliff Cavern

Castleton is a beautiful village situated at the head of the Hope  Valley in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The village is popular for its show caves, history, shops, Christmas lights,  garland ceremony, Winnats Pass, Cave Dale and for those wishing to walk on the numerous footpaths in the area . Surrounded by hillsides and overlooked by Mam Tor (the shivering mountain) and the ancient Peveril Castle. 

Treak Cliff Cavern is a show cave near Castleton. It is part of the Castleton Site of Special Scientific Interest and one of only two sites where the ornamental mineral Blue John is still excavated. A coach will be provided. 


Kelham Island Museum (guided and self-guided)

Kelham Island Museum was opened in 1982 to house the objects, pictures and archive material representing Sheffield’s industrial story. Th interactive galleries tell the story from light trades and skilled workmanship to mass production and what it was like to live and work in Sheffield during the Industrial Revolution. Follow the growth of the steel city through the Victorian Era and two world wars to see how steelmaking forged both the city of today and the world!
