The most convenient airports are: 

  • Glasgow Airport. Approximately 7 miles west of the West End. It is connected to the West End by the 77 bus service , and the city centre by the Glasgow Airport Express (500). Taxi fare to/from the airport is £20–30 pounds, and there is a taxi rank outside arrivals. Car hire companies operate at the airport, and it is approximately a 15–20 minute drive to the SEC, but allow extra during rush hour. 

  • Prestwick Airport. Approximately 33 miles south-west of the West End. It has its own rail station to connect it to the City Centre, and those taking a flight get a 50% discount on the train fare. The airport is also connected to the City Centre by the Stagecoach X77 Express Service. Car hire companies operate at the airport, and it is approximately a 35–45 minute drive to the SEC, but allow extra during rush hour. 

  • Edinburgh Airport. Approximately 41 miles east of the West End. There are trains from Glasgow to the nearby stations of Edinburgh Park and Haymarket, which are connected to the airport by a tram service. There are also connections from the City Centre via Citylink AIR and 900 coaches and Citylink 902 coach. Car hire companies operate at the airport, and it is approximately a 45–55 minute drive to the SEC, but allow extra during rush hour. 

Getting around Glasgow 

Once in Glasgow, there is ample public transport, and the city is walkable. It is a pleasant stroll along the River Clyde from the SEC to the city centre. The city has a public bicycle hire system Nextbike, available 24/7, with rental starting from £1. There are over 300 km of cycleways in the city, and links to the National Routes.  

Glasgow is well connected with local rail links. As a conference delegate, you may buy an exclusive ScotRail Conference Rover pass for just £5. This provides 5 days of unlimited travel in the conference zone, which covers stations around the SEC as well as the City Centre. Take your conference badge to a station in the conference zone, like the Exhibition Centre, to purchase. The pass also provides a 50% discount for rail travel outside the conference zone if you would like to explore further afield. 

Glasgow has the third oldest underground trainline in the world. It connects the City Centre with Glasgow West End and Glasgow South Side. It is uniquely easy to navigate, as it is just a circular loop. Day tickets are £4.30 for unlimited travel for 1 day).
