About

The International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation is organised every three years under the guidance of the International Society on General Relativity and Gravitation. It is the principal international meeting for scientists working in all areas of relativity and gravitation.

The Edoardo Amaldi Conference on Gravitational Waves is organised every two years under the guidance of the Gravitational Wave International Committee. It is the principal international meeting for scientists working in all areas of gravitational-wave science.

In 2025, the 24th International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation (GR24) and the 16th Edoardo Amaldi Conference on Gravitational Waves (Amaldi16) was held together as a joint meeting, bringing together experts from across classical and quantum gravity, mathematical and applied relativity, gravitational-wave instrumentation and data analysis, multimessenger astronomy, relativistic astrophysics and cosmology, as well as education, outreach and community building in support of these areas.

Recordings of talks are available via YouTube. Meeting organisation was led by the Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow and the Institute of Physics.

There was a free, public lecture on 16 July 2025 by Prof. Carol Mundell. Prof. Mundell is an observational astrophysicist, whose research has included studying black holes and gamma-ray bursts. She is currently the Director of Science at the European Space Agency. As a former University of Glasgow undergraduate, it is a pleasure to welcome her back.

Ahead of the main meeting, there was an Early Career Workshop organised in partnership with the Gravitational-Wave Early Career Scientists. The ECR Workshop took place 10–12 July 2025 at the University of Glasgow. It consisted of two days of invited talks, panel discussions and tutorials, and one day of networking and social activities in advance of GR–Amaldi. The ECR Workshop aimed to provide attendees with scientific and soft skills, and support them in becoming the next generation of leading scientists.

Between the Early Career Workshop and the main meeting, we held a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on 13 July 2025 at the University of Glasgow. Co-organised with University of Glasgow student societies, we worked to improve the quality of pages related to topics of the meeting. A key goal was making biographies for women scientists to represent representative of the breadth of the field. Expert advice on Wikipedia editing was given by the award-winning Dr Jess Wade. Attendees were welcomed to join a special public talk by Dr Erin MacDonald, science consultant for Star Trek

To coincide with the meeting, we hosted an art exhibition of works related to the topics of the meeting, and you can view the online gallery of science-inspired art.
