Instructions for Oral Presentations


Please make sure you have consulted the programme and are aware of the date and time of your talk. Please note: talk times may change right up until the day, please keep checking back to the programme for your latest presentation time. You should also ensure that you keep within your allocated time slot as these will be strictly enforced by the session chairs.

  • Plenary Talks and Bridgman Prize Talk - 50 mins (45 minutes talk + 5 minutes Q&A)
  • Plenary Jamieson Award and EHPRG Award Talks - 35 mins (30 minutes talk + 5 minutes Q&A)
  • Invited Talks – 30 mins (25 minutes talk + 5 minutes Q&A)
  • Contributed Talks – 15 minutes (13 minutes talk + 2 minutes Q&A)

The lecture theatres are equipped with the following audio-visual equipment/support: 

  • Projector
  • Screen
  • PC/Laptop
  • Lectern (fixed) and microphone (there isn’t a microphone in Moffat due to the size of the room)
  • Roaming mic. (excluding Moffat due to the size of the room)
  • Clicker and laser pointer
  • There will be AV support in each room, if required.

Preparing your presentation:

  • You, as the presenting author, are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary copyright / permissions for all material included within your presentation.
  • PDF, PowerPoint and Keynote are accepted.

Uploading your presentation and the on the day management:

  • Bring your presentation on a memory stick and up-load it at the ‘speaker preview’ desk ideally the day before your session, otherwise at least 2 hours before. 
  • To rehearse your talk, book a time at the ‘speaker preview’ desk.
  • The desk will be located beside the escalator on floor -2 and open between the following times: Sunday from 5:30pm to 8pm, Monday to Thursday from 8am to 6pm, and Friday from 8am to 10:15am.
  • Direct connection of your personal laptop to the session computer is not permitted.
  • Your presentation will automatically be uploaded to the relevant session computer in preparation for your talk. There will be an AV technician in the room if help is required.
  • The chair of the session will introduce each talk and then moderate all questions from the attendees.
