Guidelines for Flash Presentations

Poster presenters are offered the opportunity to deliver a 1-2-minute flash presentation prior to the poster session on Tuesday 2 October from 16:00 - 16:30. Flash talks are a great way to give an introduction to your work, and encourage attendees to visit you at your poster to find out more. Flash talks should be 1-2 minutes, and presenters are allowed one-two PowerPoint slides, which must be sent to claire.garland@iop.org by Thursday 26 September.

Please find below some tips and advice on how to deliver a memorable flash talk:

  1. Start by introducing yourself and present a couple of key areas of your research.
  2. Emphasise one or two points
  3. Use dynamic diagrams, graphics and images.
  4. Avoid any special effects such as PowerPoint animations
  5. Include your poster number (this will be available via the programme from Monday 23 September)
  6. Stick to the time limit as this will be strictly enforced by the chair of the session.
  7. Practise! Practise!

The order of flash talks will be available via the programme by Friday 27 September.
