Event Information


The following information has been compiled for those attending the Nuclear Physics Conference. We hope this helps you plan your participation and have a smooth, enjoyable experience.

Venue

The event will be held at the University of Brighton on the Moulsecoomb Campus, approximately 2 kilometres from Brighton city centre.

Talks will take place in the Huxley Building, alongside the exhibitors and refreshment breaks. Lunch and poster sessions will be held in the Cockcroft Building. Both buildings are located close to each other – please see the interactive campus map below for details.


Travel and Transport

The Moulsecoomb Campus is approximately 2 kilometres north of Brighton city centre and is easily accessible by public transport, bicycle, and on foot. Please follow the conference signage.

By Train

  • Moulsecoomb Station is located directly adjacent to the campus, close to the Huxley and Cockcroft Buildings.
  • There are frequent direct services from Brighton Station, with journey times of approximately 5 minutes.
  • Trains typically run up to four times per hour.

By Bus

  • Regular bus services run from Brighton city centre along Lewes Road.
  • Routes serving the campus include 24, 25, 28 and 49, with frequent services throughout the day.
  • The nearest bus stops are located directly outside the campus on Lewes Road.

By Car

  • The campus is accessible via the A270 Lewes Road.
  • On‑campus parking is limited and permit‑controlled and must be arranged in advance (see below)
  • Visitors are strongly encouraged to use public transport where possible.
  • Pay‑and‑display parking is available at nearby locations, and off‑campus parking options are available in the surrounding area.

By Bicycle

  • Dedicated cycle lanes run from Brighton city centre along Lewes Road directly to the campus.
  • Secure cycle racks and covered storage are available near campus buildings.
  • Cycle access is well signposted throughout the route. 

On Foot

  • The campus can be reached on foot from Brighton city centre in approximately 30–40 minutes, depending on your starting point.


Parking

  • Parking on all university campuses is now pay to park which is monitored by Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at each car park. Visitors to site will be required to pay a fee from £2.00 per day to park on campus which is payable via the registration site.

Registration

All participants are requested to visit the registration desk on their first day at the conference to collect their conference badge. Badges must be worn at all times while on-site at the conference. If you are likely to forget your badge, please return it to the registration desk on your departure each day, and we will keep it safe for you. The registration desk will be staffed during the following hours:

Catering

Refreshments and lunch will be served at set times throughout the conference programme. We recognise the importance of accommodating dietary requirements, and all preferences and requirements provided during registration have been shared with the catering team. If you have any questions about ingredients or allergens, or if you have a dietary requirement that has arisen at short notice, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of the catering or event team, who will be happy to assist.


Social Programme

We have planned an exciting social programme for you, offering plenty of opportunities to network with colleagues, explore the poster presentations, and connect with exhibitors. The programme includes drinks and charcuterie boards on Monday 13 April (G50, the Cockcroft Building), drinks and canapés on Tuesday 14 April (The Foyer, Huxley Building), followed by the Conference Dinner. 

The Conference Dinner will take place at the Palm Court Restaurant on the Pier. Guests are invited to arrive between 19:00 and 20:00 to enjoy a cocktail reception with live music

Please note that there is usually an entry charge to access the Pier. On arrival, simply inform the team at the entrance that you are attending a private function at the Palm Court Restaurant, and you will be granted access without charge.

Dinner will be served at approximately 20:00The dinner will consist of two courses (main course and dessert) and will include wine and beer. Following dinner, the band will continue to perform, and there will be an opportunity to purchase additional drinks from the bar. The evening will conclude at 23:00.

Internet Access (WiFi)

Wi‑Fi will be available via eduroam for staff and students from participating institutions, or via the University of Brighton guest Wi‑Fi for all other attendees.


IOP Code of Conduct

The IOP Code of Conduct outlines the expected behavior that the IOP requires all attendees to uphold. Our events are designed to be open and inclusive, ensuring that everyone feels comfortable, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or background. If, during the event, you have any concerns that the Code of Conduct is not being followed, please speak with the registration desk. 


Health and Safety and Security

Your safety and well-being are our top priorities during the conference. In light of this, we are sharing the following safety protocols to ensure a secure and comfortable experience for all attendees.

First Aid

If you require first aid during the conference, please go to the registration desk. A trained first aider will be available at all times while on-site at the conference. 

Fire Evacuation Procedure

If you discover a fire:

  • Immediately operate the nearest fire alarm call point.
  • Dial (9)999 to call the Fire Brigade.
  • Dial 2222 to notify the University switchboard.
  • Leave the building immediately by the closest exit. 

On hearing the fire alarm:

  • Report to assembly point (see fire action notice).
  • The nominated fire warden will ensure that the area is clear and will report accordingly to the BEC (Building Evacuation Controller).
At all the times:

  • Carry out the Fire Warden’s instructions
  • Assist any person who needs help, if safe to do so
  • Use the nearest available exit
  • Proceed directly to the correct Assembly Point (locations are indicated on Fire Action Notices near to all alarm call points)
  • Remain there until officially instructed otherwise.

  •   Do not stop to collect personal belongings
  •   Do not try to pass the person in front
  •   Do not use the lift
  •   Do not re-enter the building
  •   Do not congregate outside the main entrance

NB: Persons unable to use the stairs should refer to their Personal Emergency Egress Plan (PEEP).

Fire doors must not be closed at all times (please do not prop doors open under any circumstances).
