Mark Baker

I am currently Reader in Surface Science and Engineering and a member of the Engineering Materials Research Centre in the Department of Mechanical Engineering Sciences. I was appointed as a Lecturer in the Department in 1999. Prior to this, I have worked as a research scientist at the EU Institute of Advanced Materials, Italy, the GEC Hirst Research Centre, London and as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Surrey. My research interests focus the use of advanced analytical techniques for the characterisation of thin films and coatings for functional and tribological applications.
