Attendee Guidelines


The following information has been compiled to help you plan your stand at ISSC-24 and make the most out of your time in Manchester. If you have any questions, please email claire.garland@iop.org or telephone +44(0)20 7470 4840. In case of emergency please call +44(0)7720 843645.

LOCATION:

The conference will be located in the John Dalton Building at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). 

All talks will be held in the theatre (accessed via the ground and first floor) and the exhibition, posters and catering will be located in Studios 1 and 2 located on the first floor; lift access is available. Registration will be located on The Street next to the building entrance.

REGISTRATION TIMES:

On arrival at the conference, please go to the registration desk to collect your name badge and welcome pack. The registration desk will be managed by two members of the IOP Conferences team.

You welcome pack will include amongst other items, a printed copy of the programme, a pen and pad. Your lanyard will also be in your pack which you will need to attach to your badge - please make sure you bring this with you each day as we will not be able to issue printed replacements!

Wednesday 19 April: 08:30 - 14:00

CATERING:

Catering will be available at set times as indicated in the programme and served in the studios. The exception is the conference dinner, which will be held off-site at the Manchester Midland Hotel. All catering is included in the fee. 

CONFERENCE DINNER:

The Conference dinner will be held on Tuesday 18 April at the Manchester Midland Hotel, which is less than a 10 minute walk from MMU. There will be pre-dinner drinks served from 19:00, sit down for dinner will be approximately 19:30.

WIFI:

Delegates can log onto the WiFi via the _BTWi-fi_ManMet network. Once connected launch your browser and click ‘Get online’. This is complimentary for all delegates. Eduroam is also available for those from participating academic instructions. 

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY:

The organisers and the organising committee recognise their environmental responsibilities and are committed to ensuring the event is as sustainable as possible. To achieve this, we have: 

  • Effective waste management and recycling points
  • Stopped waste by using upcycled, recycled, or reusable items
  • Worked with ethical partners when purchasing supplies
  • Complied with all applicable environmental legislation and relevant codes of practice. 

FIRST AID:

If you require first aid, contact security on extension 1334. All members of the IOP Conferences team are trained first aiders.

FIRE ALARM:

There are no planned fire drills during the conference and therefore if the alarm sounds please evacuate the building immediately. Please follow the instructions below

If you discover a fire or suspect the presence of fire:

  1. Sound the alarm by operating the nearest break glass point.
  2. Inform the Manager in charge or Fire Officer of relevant details – they will be wearing a blue or yellow high visibility jacket.

If you hear the alarm

  1. Leave the building by the nearest available exit.  Do not use the lifts
  2. Proceed to your assembly point: John Dalton Car Park for JD Central, or Oxford Road for John Dalton east
  3. Do not re-enter the building until officially informed that it is safe to do so
  4. Ensure you have a copy of the attendee list with you so you can account for delegates. Alert a Fire Marshall if any delegates are unaccounted for.
  5. Keep well away from the building itself, and keep service roads clear for emergency vehicles.  If the circumstances are such that the assembly point becomes hazardous, further dispersal may be ordered by the GMC Fire Officer in charge.
