Dr Philipp Preiss
Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics

Philipp Preiss is an experimental physicist working on quantum simulation with ultracold quantum gases. Philipp earned his PhD from Harvard University, where he worked with Markus Greiner on single-atom addressing in quantum gas microscopes. He then continued his research as a postdoctoral fellow with Selim Jochim at Heidelberg University, investigating strongly correlated few-fermion systems in optical tweezers.

Now leading a research group at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, Philipp focuses on the microscopic manipulation and detection of ultracold Fermi gases. His recent work, which is supported by an ERC starting grant, explores how the intrinsic fermionic nature of ultracold gases can be leveraged to simulate complex real-world systems.
