Talk title: Probe valency and magnetism of magnetic topological materials using XMCD

Dr Jieyi Liu is a postdoctoral research associate at Diamond Light Source, the UK’s national synchrotron facility. He received his PhD in experimental condensed matter physics from the University of Cambridge in 2019, where he investigated magneto-optic and transport properties of magnetic topological insulator films using a custom-built cryogenic MOKE setup. He then held a postdoctoral position at the University of Oxford, focusing on synchrotron-based ARPES and XMCD techniques to explore the interplay of valence state, magnetism, and topology in magnetic topological materials. At Diamond, Dr Liu is currently involved in commissioning a soft X-ray momentum microscope and leads independent research on the electronic structurre of topological quantum materials using ARPES.
