Dr Soham Pal is a research associate at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He completed his PhD at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune, India, in 2021. His doctoral research focused on experimental studies of quantum thermodynamics and quantum correlations using interacting nuclear spin systems. Specifically, he explored these phenomena in the liquid-state and solid-state Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), treating the interacting nuclear spins as qubit registers. After completing his PhD, Dr Pal joined the newly established Coherent Quantum group, led by Dr. Helena Knowles, at the Cavendish Laboratory. In his current role, he investigates solid-state coloured defects in diamond known as Nitrogen vacancy centres (NVs). Dr Pal utilizes a homebuilt confocal setup to explore the properties of NVs for quantum nano-sensing. Additionally, he studies the coherent control of coupled NVs and nearby nuclear spins within the diamond lattice, towards the investigation of quantum simulations and information.
