CNR Spin, Italy
Silvia Picozzi received her BSc in Physics at Univ. L’Aquila, Italy (1994) and her PhD in Materials Science from Univ. Camerino, Italy (1998). She is currently Director of Research at Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) at the Institute for Superconducting and Innovative materials and Devices (SPIN) in Chieti (Italy). She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (2019, Division of Materials Physics). She coordinated a Starting Grant from the European Research Council (2008-2012) and was involved (as coordinator or responsible of the CNR-Unit) in 2 PRIN national projects, one H2020-Marie Curie ITN, 1 FIRB project, 2 Next Generation-EU PNRR initiatives. Since 2006 she coordinates a small scientific group and she has supervised 25 post-docs in the entire career. She’s coauthor of > 230 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Her activity is centered on High-Performance Computing simulations based on density functional theory for solid-state materials (including surfaces, nanostructures, interfaces). Her focus is on spin degrees of freedom in both magnetic and non-magnetic materials and on their interplay with other types of cooperative phenomena (ferroelectricity, charge-ordering, multiferroicity).
