Carlos is a researcher and co-founder of SimZero, a deep tech startup with the mission of facilitating the adoption of machine learning-based fluid dynamics for Smart Cities and Industry 5.0. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, with a focus on physics and computational methods. He also holds a degree in Industrial Engineering and a Master’s degree in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability. He held research assistant positions at the Technical University of Munich and at Universitat Jaume I, where he also worked as a part-time lecturer. In addition, he undertook research stays at Imperial College London and Iowa State University. 

He joined IBM Research Europe as a Postdoctoral Researcher and later became a Research Staff Scientist, where he led projects to boost the competitiveness of UK industry through the adoption of high-performance computing, cloud technologies, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling. His recent work at SimZero focuses on facilitating the generation of CFD-ML models and enabling their seamless integration into digital twins, extended reality (XR), robotics, and IoT. These advancements have recently been demonstrated in use cases such as emergency planning in urban environments, water treatment plants, and engineering education tools.
