Professor Kamal Vidanapathirana

Professor Kamal Vidanapathirana is a distinguished Sri Lankan academic specializing in Materials Science and Electrochemistry, with extensive expertise in energy storage technologies. He obtained his PhD in Solid State Physics from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark. With an academic career spanning over two decades, Professor Vidanapathirana currently serves as a Senior Professor at the Department of Electronics, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka. His research primarily revolves around developing electrode materials with conducting polymers, graphite-based derivatives and fabrication of energy storage devices, particularly batteries and supercapacitors. He holds two patents on rechargeable cells utilizing Sri Lankan natural graphite. His contributions to science have been recognized with numerous accolades. As a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, United Kingdom and Institute of Physics Sri Lanka, he continues to make significant contributions to advancing materials science and sustainable energy solutions.
