About

The UK Nuclear Industry is becoming increasingly diverse – knowledge in reactor physics is spread across multiple organisations, including reactor operators and designers; UK and overseas advanced nuclear technology vendors; and consultancies, universities, nuclear software developers and organisations supporting the UK Government.  There are several challenges facing the reactor physics community:

  • Reactor design and operation is a recognisably scarce skillset.
  • There is a lack of experimental facilities in the UK for methods validation.
  • Advanced nuclear technologies have ‘challenging physics’ and hence increased computational requirements.

The aim of this forum is to help address these challenges by strengthening links in reactor physics across the nuclear industry and through fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge exchange.  This forum will also provide a more coherent voice into adjacent areas such as thermal hydraulics, fuel performance, fault studies, nuclear data, criticality, shielding and radiation measurement.
