Kaden Hazzard is an Associate Professor at Rice University, where he studies the theory of interacting quantum matter, especially in ultracold quantum systems. A particular interest has been creating novel strongly correlated matter using atoms and molecules with large internal state spaces, such as alkaline earth atoms, Rydberg atoms, and molecules. Synthetic dimensions and SU(N) Hubbard models have been prominent recent themes. He also works on connections of AMO systems with condensed matter and quantum information, as well as the fundamental mathematical physics to understand the broad conceptual issues underpinning all these areas. He is the Director of the Rice Quantum Initiative and the Chair of the Graduate Program Committee in the Department of Physics & Astronomy.
