Code of Conduct

Progress in Physics 2024 (PIP24) is a hybrid event intended to communicate information to attendees on the subject of condensed matter. IOP Publishing Limited (“IOPP”) values the engagement of each attendee and aims to ensure that all attendees have an enjoyable and fulfilling experience. All attendees must show respect and courtesy to others throughout the series of events. All attendees, speakers and sponsors at PIP24 must agree with this code of conduct which will be enforced throughout the series of events. IOPP expects cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe environment for everybody. Thank you for helping to make this a welcoming, friendly event for all.

Attendees, speakers and sponsors should treat all fellow participants with courtesy, civility and respect. Harassment and harassing behaviour of any form will not be tolerated. Any participants asked to stop harassing behaviour must do so immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behaviour, IOPP may take any action it deems to be appropriate, including warning them or expelling them from the PIP24 event. Harassment and harassing behaviour may include, but is not limited to:

  • Verbal comments that reinforce social structures of domination related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, religion, or technology choices;
  • Sexual images in public spaces;
  • Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following;
  • Harassing photography or recording;
  • Sustained disruption of talks or other events;
  • Unwelcome sexual attention;
  • Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour.

Sponsors are also subject to this policy. In particular, sponsors must not use sexualised images, activities, or other materials.

WHO TO CONTACT?

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please contact IOPP’s team as soon as possible through email pip@ioppublishing.org. Harassment and other code of conduct violations reduce the value of the event for everyone.

IOPP will be happy to help participants contact local law enforcement or otherwise assist those experiencing harassment to feel safe for the duration of the virtual events series.
