Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh

As featured in Physics World, Professor Ghosh continues the legacy of Satyendra Nath Bose by championing both scientific excellence and gender equity in quantum research.

Professor Rupamanjari Ghosh is a distinguished physicist, academic leader, and policy influencer whose career spans pioneering research, transformative institutional leadership, and national science strategy. She served two terms as Vice-Chancellor of Shiv Nadar University Delhi-NCR, where she spearheaded its rise to national prominence—earning accolades such as “University of the Year” (FICCI, 2016), ISO certifications, and recognition as an Institution of Eminence.

A leading expert in quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and quantum information, Professor Ghosh has held senior roles at Jawaharlal Nehru University and led internationally acclaimed Indo-French collaborations. Her contributions to India’s National Quantum Mission and her chapter in Berkeley’s Career Journeys of Diverse Leaders in Higher Education reflect her influence in both science and higher education reform.

She is currently the first and only international member of the Advisory Board of the Executive Leadership Academy at the University of California, Berkeley. She also serves on the Governing Council of RRI Bangalore, the Board of Governors of Jaipuria School of Business, and as Observer & Coach to the Seth Anandram Jaipuria Group of Educational Institutions. Additionally, she is a member of the Advisory Council of the Association of Indian Principals, among other leadership roles.

Professor Ghosh has championed gender justice, sustainability, and interdisciplinary innovation, founding key initiatives at SNU including its Gender Committee and Faculty Development Centre. Her accolades include the Stree Shakti Science Samman, the CV Raman Lecture Award, and India’s Changemaker: Woman of the Year 2022 for Excellence in Education.

She remains a driving force in shaping quantum science, inclusive academic ecosystems, and visionary leadership across borders.
