Umbertoluca Ranieri is a postdoctoral research associate at CSEC (University of Edinburgh) working with Dr. Dominique Laniel.

He received his PhD in physics from EPFL in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2018. He then joined HPSTAR in Shanghai, China, as a postdoctoral fellow working with Dr. Ross Howie and later Sapienza University in Rome, Italy, as a postdoctoral fellow working with Professor Livia Bove.

His research focuses on the experimental study of simple molecular systems at high pressure, mostly water, methane, nitrogen, hydrogen and their compounds. He is a frequent user of synchrotron and neutron large-scale facilities.
