Chris McGuire

Chris McGuire is a post-doc at LLNL working with Yuan Ping and Jon Eggert. His primary focus is on experiments coupling laser-shock compression of geomaterials to X-ray scattering diagnostics using synchrotron and X-ray free electron light sources. He completed his PhD in Geology at UCLA in 2018, where he conducted diamond anvil cell experiments at synchrotron light sources to understand phase relations, equations of state and transport properties of geomaterials at extreme pressure and temperature conditions relevant to Earth’s rocky mantle and metallic core. Following the PhD, he was a post-doc at the University of Edinburgh with Tetsuya Komabayashi, pursuing equation of state and melting experiments on iron alloys to inform thermochemical models of Earth’s liquid outer core.
