Andrew Curtis is Professor of Mathematical Geoscience at the University of Edinburgh, U.K. He has a B. Sc. Hons. in Mathematics (Edinburgh, 1990) and a D. Phil. (Ph. D.) in Geophysics (Oxford, 1994). He was a post-doctoral research fellow at Utrecht University 1994-1997, after which he developed new seismic data processing and imaging methods during 8 years in Schlumberger Cambridge Research. In 2005 he joined the University of Edinburgh, first as a Reader, then as Professor from 2009, and was Head of Institute of Earth and Planetary Sciences from 2011 to 2014. In 2017 he received the Society of Exploration Geophysics Reginald Fessenden Award for his work on seismic interferometry, he is President of the British Geophysical Association, and Vice President for Geophysics of the Royal Astronomical Society. He researches imaging and monitoring of the interior of the Earth and other media, inversion methods, wave theory, experimental design, hazard and risk analysis, mathematical geology and expert elicitation theory, and has led the industrially-funded Edinburgh Imaging Project for thirteen years.
