Alain Lhémery [BSc in physics, 1984 – MSc in acoustics, 1986 – PhD in acoustics, 1990 – HDR in physics, 2000] is a Fellow of CEA (French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission) and CEA Research Director at Université Paris-Saclay. His work [at École Centrale Paris as a PhD student (1986 – 1990) and as an assistant professor (1991 – 1995), at City University London as an Honorary Visiting Fellow (1990 – 1991) and since he joined the CEA (1995 – …)] focuses on the modelling and simulation of ultrasonic (bulk or guided) wave transduction, radiation, propagation and scattering, for application in NDE and SHM. Part of this work is implemented in the NDE simulation platform CIVA. So far, he has supervised 21 PhD works to completion. He has taught and still teaches general and ultrasonic NDE to graduate and undergraduate students in engineering high schools (CentraleSupélec, ENSTA) and universities (Univ. Paris-Saclay, Univ. Évry, Le Mans Univ.). Since 2016, he is Subject Editor of NDT&E International (ultrasonics and thermal waves). He founded the annual Anglo-French Physical Acoustics Conference series with Pr. Nader Saffari (UCL).
