Micropattern Gaseous Detectors (MPGDs) have become indispensable tools in a broad range of scientific applications over the past three decades, owing to their versatility, robustness, and excellent performance characteristics. Keeping pace with the rapid evolution of the MPGD technology, several research groups across the UK have contributed to the development, characterisation, and integration of these detectors for research spanning Nuclear Structure and Astrophysics, High Energy Physics, Neutron and Muon Science, Dark Matter Physics, among other areas of fundamental and applied physics.
Despite the extensive research and development activities carried out by individual groups and their established collaborators, there is currently no dedicated UK-wide MPGD users network or collaboration.
This one-day workshop aims to bring together researchers, students, and technical experts already working with, or interested in Micropattern Gaseous Detectors to foster communication, share expertise, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The workshop will provide a platform for participants to present their ongoing research, discuss future development needs and potential applications, identify common challenges, and strengthen connections within MPGD users community in the UK. In addition, the meeting seeks to assess the interest and potential for establishing a coordinated UK-MPGD users collaboration that could support future scientific and technological initiatives.
The programme will include invited talks, poster presentations, and discussion sessions focused on current developments and future directions in MPGD research and applications in the UK.
