Understanding and mitigating temperature-related losses in solar photovoltaic (PV) systems is critical for deploying resilient and reliable PV systems, as well as increasing investor and public confidence in renewable energy. Since temperature is the most significant performance factor after irradiance, it can dramatically influence PV system efficiency, power output and reliability.

This Workshop is organised within the framework of the EPSRC-funded  Temperature Analysis and Characterisation of Operational Solar Photovoltaics (TACOS-PV) project. TACOS-PV aims to produce a step change in the knowledge, understanding, and modelling of the temperature dependence of solar PV modules and systems under operation. This new knowledge will improve current PV system design software packages, reduce uncertainties of PV system performance assessment, and will allow accurate quantification of temperature losses of PV systems at any location in the world. This will result in increased confidence in new high efficiency PV technologies, reduced risks in PV system development and hence higher efficiency and resilience of solar PV systems.

There will be discussions around the challenges of understanding how temperature affects different PV materials, how temperature can affect performance of solar PV modules in the field, and how operating temperature of solar PV module can be measured accurately, which is crucial towards accounting for performance losses in actual PV systems. The workshop seeks engagement from the community for temperature related challenges for different PV technologies, and will work as a platform for sharing knowledge and insights in this area.
