Superconductivity Global Alliance (ScGA)
For a greener, healthier, more prosperous, and sustainable Future

Overview:  Superconductivity (SC) - the ability of a material to carry electricity without energy loss - has already enabled transformational technologies and promises future technology breakthroughs that will have a significant impact on our lives.

The Superconductivity Global Alliance (ScGA) is a collective initiative dedicated to advancing the understanding and application of superconductivity. With the promise of lossless energy transmission and revolutionary technology breakthroughs, superconductivity stands as a beacon for a sustainable future.

Benefits of Superconductivity:

  • Efficiency: Superconductors, with their zero resistance, can vastly improve energy efficiency in applications ranging from power grids to transportation.
  • Compact Design: Devices and systems using superconductivity can often be more compact, leading to space-saving solutions.
  • Economic Growth: The adoption of superconductive technologies can spur innovation, creating new industries and job opportunities.
  • Environmental Protection: Superconductivity promises cleaner energy solutions, helping to reduce carbon footprints and combat climate change.

The ScGA vision: Superconductivity has already enabled major advances and capabilities such as MRI, NMR, high magnetic field research, and high energy physics accelerators which otherwise would not be possible.  In the future, superconductivity will provide a means towards zero-emission targets, for example by enabling fusion power, expanding usage of wind power, and facilitating zero-emission transportation, as well as enabling new technologies such as superconducting classical and quantum computing, water purification, new medical diagnosis and therapy tools, and new scientific breakthroughs.

Our Mission: To harness the potential of superconductivity, promote its integration into various sectors, and pave the way for a greener, healthier, and more prosperous global community as set by the UN sustainable development goals.

The proposal: We propose the establishment of public and private partnerships leading to national initiatives to accelerate the development of superconducting solutions that can make a step-change towards addressing the 17 UN’s Sustainability Development Goals and the net zero carbon emission targets by 2050.

To harness the enormous potential of superconductors in addressing our societal future needs, new thinking and new innovations are needed to translate demonstrator devices into successful market applications. At the heart of this process, we propose to establish a three-way partnership.

The ScGA proposed timeline for 2024:

Target 1- Develop Options for public and private partnerships to fund the proposed grand challenges (2024).

Target 2- Facilitate developing consortia/partnerships between the SC Community, National and Private funding, and big industrials to address grand challenges (2024).

Target 3- Superconducting Global Summit at the senior level and decision makers to facilitate the proposed partnership and adoption of options (2024).

Target 4 – Adoption of identified options with public + private funding at National Levels for grand challenges ~ > 1 B Euro over 10 years to deliver on the Strategic Roadmap and the promise from SC for the future.

Join the ScGA initiative: As we move into an era where sustainability is paramount, superconductivity offers a chance to reshape our future. We invite researchers, innovators, policymakers, funders, and passionate individuals to join ScGA in this exciting journey towards a greener, healthier, more prosperous, and sustainable world.
