The retired members section of the Institute of Physics are planning an At Home  2nd February 2023 entitled Physics in Unexpected Places. This will be held at IOP Headquarters, 37 Caledonian Road, London N1 9BU.

Physics is all round us. Sometimes in unexpected places. This topic arose after a member replaced a very unspectacular piece of equipment in the house and found within it some unexpectedly advanced physics.

The plan is to surprise and entertain. Topic titles will be chosen where possible to hide the surprise. So, subjects like fluid dynamics, quantum mechanics, optics, acoustics, friction, climate, will be chosen as the titles, leaving details to be revealed during the presentations.
