Abstract Submission


URGENT NOTE: This event is unfortunately no longer going ahead and will be postponed until 2025 (Date TBC).

We invite early career researchers, postgraduates, and artists to submit their work for presentation at the IOP PGS Printing for the Future 2024: Art and Science of Printing conference and exhibition. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work, whether it is research or innovative artistic creations, to an interdisciplinary audience of academics, artists, and industry professionals.

1. Scientific Presentations
For the scientific conference, we welcome abstract submissions for 10-minute oral presentations. Topics include, but are not limited to:

  • 3D printing & Additive manufacturing
  • Graphic science  and Packaging
  • Experimental printmaking in visual arts
  • The art of print in fashion
  •  Print on demand
  • Printed, organic and large area electronics
  • Energy storage
  • Advanced functional printable materials & manufacturing processes
  • Printed Wearable electronics
  • Bioprinting &  Sensors
  • Physics, Numerical modelling, Rheology of printing and related applications

Submission Guidelines:
Abstracts should be 200-300 words in length, outlining the key research highlights and relevance to the field. The deadline for submission is 1st November 2024. All abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of experts from the IOP PGS.

2. Art Exhibition Submissions

For the art exhibition, we invite submissions of original prints and 3D-printed objects that demonstrate the creative use of print technology across disciplines such as art, fashion, and design.

Submission Guidelines:

Submit an image of your art work in 300 dpi resolution, on the day the artwork itself should be no larger than A1 size (594 x 841 mm).  Accompany your submission with a brief description (up to 200 words) detailing the techniques used in creating the artwork. Alternatively, 3D-printed objects are also welcome, with dimensions and material specifications included. On the day artwork should not be framed. This allows the artwork to be presented on the poster boards provided. For 3D printed objects the artists will need to provide a plinth. Alternatively, the  IOP can provide a table upon request. 

The deadline for submission has been extended to the 9th November 2024. All entries will be reviewed for inclusion by a panel of experts.

Submission Details

  • Note that there is an expectation that by submitting an abstract, the presenting author will go on to register. There is no fee for submitting your abstract(s).
  • To begin your submission, please create an account selecting a memorable password as you will be expected to use the same password when you go on to register for the event. 
  • The abstract title, authors and their affiliation should be entered in the corresponding fields.
  • Please select a preferred topic/theme from the list above.
  • Please indicate your preferred type of presentation (oral/artwork). However, it is up to the Programme Committee to make the final selection.  
  • Indicate whether the presenting author is a student. 
  • The length of an abstract is limited to 300 words (one image / figure is permitted). References, when needed, should be indicated using square brackets [1], in order o f appearance in the abstract. All references must be listed in numerical order at the bottom of the text.
