Speakers will be invited to address the following principal topics:

  1. NEG coatings: underlying physics, properties, preparation technology, and future directions.
  2. NEG activation: choice of the procedure, what may poison the NEG film, positive and negative experience, suggested procedures.
  3. Measurements of NEG coating pumping properties in the laboratory, issues and uncertainties
  4. Other film physical characteristics relevant for the applications (adhesion, roughness, impedance…)
  5. Measurements on NEG coated vacuum chamber exposed to synchrotron radiation, electron or ion bombardment in “laboratory” conditions and on beamlines.
  6. Experience of NEG coated vessels installed in working machines.
  7. Advantages in the machine design, operation and performances when using NEG coated vacuum chambers.
  8. Special vacuum chambers with complicated shapes
  9. Use of NEG coating in future projects and further areas of research.
  10. Use of NEG coating in Vacuum Devices other than accelerators NEG coatings


It is also suggested to pay attention on specific topics for discussions:

  • Further development of NEG coating:
    • NEG coating and Low SEY coating technology: is magnetron sputtering the only method to use?
    • Coating of special vacuum chambers with complicated shapes
    • Narrow vacuum chamber coating
    • NEG coating RF resistance and development of conducting NEG coatings.
    • NEG activation: choice of the procedure, what may poison the NEG film, positive and negative experience, suggested procedures
    • Are hydrocarbons and other non-getterable species a real problem with NEG?
  • Low SEY coatings and materials, their performance and lifetime
  • Low outgassing: surface coatings and treatments (polishing, vacuum firing, air bake, etc.)
  • Coating with other special properties: conducting, dielectric, magnetic, heat resistant, etc.
  • Coatings and materials for optical components
  • NEG coating and Low SEY coating lifetime.
