Visas

Applying for a UK visa is a straightforward process, but it’s important to follow each step carefully:

  1. Check if you need a visa
Visit the official GOV.UK website to find out if you need a visa and which type suits your travel plans — for example, a Standard Visitor visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
  2. Start your application
You can apply online up to three months before your intended travel date. During the application, you’ll need to pay the relevant fees and, if required, book an appointment at a visa application centre to provide your biometric information.
  3. Prepare your documents
Collect all necessary supporting documents, including your passport, proof of financial means, travel itinerary, and any other materials relevant to your visa type.
  4. Submit and wait
Once your application and documents are submitted, you’ll receive updates on the status of your visa. Processing times may vary, so apply early to avoid delays.

The conferences team is happy to supply individuals who require a visa with a supporting letter. To request a visa letter, email conferences@iop.org, including your title, full name and address. Please note that letters will only be issued to delegates who have paid the registration fee.
