Dr David Harbottle is an Associate Professor in the School of Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Leeds and a visiting Professor at Chiang Mai University in Thailand. Following a First-Class degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds, he completed a PhD under the supervision of Professor Simon Biggs before relocating to the US to work with Professors Sanjoy Banerjee and Ilona Kretzschmar at the City of College of New York. In 2011, he moved to the University of Alberta to work with Prof. Zhenghe Xu in the Oil Sands Engineering group, exploring the role of colloid science to improve the extraction and waste management processes. In 2014, he returned to the University of Leeds and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018. He now leads the Colloids and Surface Science group at the University of Leeds and is the Deputy Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Molecules to Products, a Centre that is training 50 PhDs over 9 years. He has published over 140 journal papers, often working at the interface between colloid science and the engineering application.
