The
Shock Waves and Extreme Conditions Group at the Institute of Physics is a
specialised community that consists of experts from industry and academia
focused on the behaviour of materials under extreme conditions, from dynamic
through to static events. The group acts as a link between physicists and
scientists from different technological fields to facilitate multi-disciplinary
research and discussions concerning experimental and theoretical developments.
The group focus areas range from static high pressures, shock waves, blast and
energetic materials, to materials characterisation across a range of strain
rates and the effects of high-energy and high-rate energy deposition. As part
of our activities, we are organising a series of institutional talks delivered
by experts in the field. These events are designed for both the physics and
research community as well as for current students and early career scientists
interested in opportunities in the field. This talk will be delivered by Dr
Alexander Rack, the Principal Beamline Scientist at ESRF. The speaker will
cover the use of high-energy synchrotrons for the in-situ X-ray imaging of
shock and high-strain rate phenomena.
The talk commences at 5:30pm and concludes at 6:30pm. There is no fee to attend this event, but you must register by completing the registration form.
