Yasir Noori
University of Southampton

Yasir obtained a first-class degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Dundee, then obtained a PhD in Physics from Lancaster University, specialising in quantum communications. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Southampton working on developing 2D material-based photonic and electronic devices such as digital memories, single photon sources and transistors.

Abstract:

I will be chairing the Quantum Undergraduate Day event and will bring my PhD experience in developing on-chip cryptography systems that use the quantum nature of photons to encrypt our digital data. I will also give my personal experience during the “PhD life”, the opportunities and challenges I faced, and the collaboration networks I built during the years. I will also offer you my experience of the various career prospects PhD students have.
