Photonic metasurfaces have matured over the last few years into an enabling technology that delivers precise custom static or switchable electromagnetic fields in applications that were previously unfeasible. As the field rapidly matures, it is essential to identify topic areas that could benefit most to fully capitalise on the technology’s potential. This meeting marks the beginning of a series of discussions between the Photonic Metasurface and Quantum communities. We aim to identify the most fruitful areas for collaboration and build links between researchers/research groups on both sides to deliver the most significant outcomes.

Target outcomes:

We envisage this meeting as a 'matchmaking' event. We aim to bring together expert groups from each side who can exploit existing knowledge to rapidly realise new concepts, and thus seed grant applications in this area. We also aim to develop discussion groups facilitated by the IOP and the UK Metamaterials Network (UKMMN) with follow-up events in 2027 and beyond.
