Professor Tony Kent, University of Nottingham

Anthony (Tony) Kent is a Professor of Physics at the University of Nottingham. He leads the Terahertz Acoustics laboratory, which is within the Experimental Condensed Matter and Nanoscience Group in the School of Physics and Astronomy. Tony has worked for 40 years in the area of phonon physics and phonon interactions with electrons, photons and magnons. His group uses ultrafast optical pump-probe techniques for the generation and detection of phonons in various nanostructures. His current research interests include quantum cascade sasers (sound lasers), phonon engineering, phonons in superfluid helium (black hole analogs) and acoustic superoscillations.
