Nuclear reactors provide safe, secure low-carbon electricity, but have unique risks that must be managed effectively. A key consideration in the ‘Safety Case’ for operating nuclear reactors is the condition of the nuclear fuel and radiological consequence should a fault occur. Using the UK Advanced Gas-cooled Reactor (AGR) as an example, this webinar will outline how the reactor coolant activity is monitored to inform on the condition of the nuclear fuel. The webinar will outline why monitoring is required, what technologies are currently used to monitor the activity within the core and the challenges faced when taking measurements. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the current techniques and future opportunities which may arise in the field of reactor monitoring as new reactor designs are developed and come online.
