Tom Ostler is a theoretical and computational physicist specialising in high performance computing models of magnetisation dynamics. He uses electronic structure calculations to parameterise complex magnetic Hamiltonians as a basis for modelling spin dynamics in a range of materials across a range of time and length-scales. These models have been applied to a range of areas in magnetism, such as ultrafast demagnetisation, all-optical switching, metrology, devices and more.
