The IOP Space Group invites you to a free-for-members event at the IOP Headquarters in King's Cross, London.  The evening will be focused on bringing together leading space sustainability experts, engineers and regulators to discuss the impacts of the rapidly increasing numbers of man-made objects in space, and what needs to be done to mitigate the impending space environmental crisis.

The panel discussions will cover the criticality of having a better understanding of the space environment through observations and tracking analysis - to facilitate future space traffic control activities, and how the physics community could play a vital part in helping facilitate this.

Discussions will also review how the rise of the mega constellation and drop in launch costs is impacting the space debris environment and the Earth's atmosphere negatively over time, and how early design decisions by customers and system developers are fundamental in achieving a sustainable space future.

The audience will have a chance to input their thoughts on creating a more sustainable space environment in a workshop session, and a networking session will follow afterwards.

We invite questions for the panellists in advance to: space.committee@iop.org with the subject "Questions for May Sustainability Event".

Panel will be hosted by Nikki Antoniou (An Airbus Defence and Space Space Sustainability Champion) with panellists including:

  • Ray Fielding (UKSA Space Sustainability Lead)
  • Ralph "Dinz" Dinsley (3S Northumbria MD)
  • Nick Shave (Astroscale MD)
