In 2025, the 24th International Conference on General Relativity and Gravitation (GR24) and the 16th Edoardo Amaldi Conference on Gravitational Waves (Amaldi16) was held together as a joint meeting, bringing together experts from across classical and quantum gravity, mathematical and applied relativity, gravitational-wave instrumentation and data-analysis, multimessenger astronomy, relativistic astrophysics and cosmology. tets
The GR–Amaldi Meeting was held 14-18 July 2025 at the Scottish Event Campus, Glasgow. Recordings of talks are available via YouTube. Meeting organisation was led by the Institute for Gravitational Research at the University of Glasgow and the Institute of Physics. To celebrate the conference, there was a public lecture by Prof. Carol Mundell, Director of Science at the European Space Agency, on 16 July 2025. To help support attendance, we offered subsidised childcare near the conference venue.
Ahead of the main meeting, there was an Early Career Workshop organised in partnership with the Gravitational-Wave Early Career Scientists. The ECR Workshop took place 10–12 July 2025 at the University of Glasgow. It consisted of two days of invited talks, panel discussions and tutorials, and one day of networking and social activities in advance of GR–Amaldi. The ECR Workshop aimed to provide attendees with scientific and soft skills, and support them in becoming the next generation of leading scientists.
Between the Early Career Workshop and the main meeting, we held a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on 13 July 2025 at the University of Glasgow. Co-organised with University of Glasgow student societies, we worked to improve the quality of pages related to topics of the meeting. A key goal was making biographies for women scientists to represent the breadth of the field. Expert advice on Wikipedia editing was given by the award-winning Dr Jess Wade. Attendees were welcomed to join a special public talk by Dr Erin MacDonald, science consultant for Star Trek.
To coincide with the meeting, we hosted an art exhibition of works related to the topics of the meeting, and you can view the online gallery of science-inspired art.
