Welcome
We are delighted to announce that the IOP will host its first ever Physics Education Research (PER) symposium on 31 October 2024.
Our aim is to bring together members of the PER community across all education settings. This will be a space to exchange ideas, map the current PER landscape, celebrate ways in which research can inform what happens in schools, colleges and HE institutions, and build relationships and community.
As part of our commitment to inclusion and accessibility this will be a hybrid event, with an online strand in addition to an in-person event at 37 Caledonian Rd, London.
Audience
- School-based: research-active physics teachers and teacher educators (e.g. who are undertaking a masters or doctorate in education, carrying out practitioner / action research or otherwise engaging with PER)
- ITE: teacher educators (e. g. ITE tutors, SCITT leads)
- HE: university physics educators (e.g. lecturers, outreach officers and researchers)
The day will include
- Keynote session with overviews of key themes
- Regular breaks for networking / snacks / quiet time
- Poster sessions to share research interests
- Mapping exercise to identify priorities, asks and offers within groups (schools, ITE and HE)
- Connecting within and between groups – getting to know colleagues engaged with PER across schools, ITE and HE, their research interests and opportunities for collaboration

When registering, please let us know if you have any special requirements such as dietary needs, the need for a quiet space or private room during the day, handouts in advance and/or in alternative formats such as Braille or large print, hearing loops, British Sign Language interpreter, wheelchair access, high backed chair etc.
