Thorsten Hesjedal is Professor of Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Oxford, working on topological and magnetic materials in the form of thin films and nanostructures. He is interested in materials growth (by molecular beam epitaxy, magnetron sputtering and chemical vapor deposition), the structural, magnetic, and electric exploration of these materials, as well as the development of advanced characterization techniques for topological magnetic systems using synchrotron light and neutron facilities. Before coming to Oxford, he was Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada), Visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University, and Visiting Professor at the UC Santa Barbara. He is cross-appointed to ISIS/STFC (the UK’s muon and neutron source) and the Diamond Light Source.
