Daan Frenkel (emeritus, U. Cambridge) received his PhD in experimental Physical Chemistry from the University of Amsterdam in 1977. He then worked as a postdoc at UCLA, and subsequently at Shell Research, the universities of Utrecht and Amsterdam, and at the FOM Institute AMOLF. In 2007, he was appointed 1968 Chair of Chemistry at Cambridge. He was Head of the Cambridge Chemistry Department from 2011 to 2015.His research focuses on numerical simulations of soft materials, for which he received numerous international prizes.He is a member of six learned societies.
