Dr. Franca Schmid finished
her studies in mechanical engineering at University of Stuttgart (Germany) in
2012. She started working on blood flow modelling in the brain during her PhD
at ETH Zurich (Switzerland) under supervision of Prof. Patrick Jenny. After
finishing her PhD in 2017 she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich
and at University of Zurich in the group of Prof. Bruno Weber. Her main
research interests are to develop numerical models to study blood flow and
transport in the brain during health and disease and to use these models to
strengthen and extend in vivo observations. She published her research in
various relevant journals, including eLife and PLOS Computational Biology, and
had the opportunity to present her work at multiple international conferences
as invited and contributing speaker. Her postdoctoral work was funded by an
independent research grant from the University of Zurich and here contributions
to the bi-annual meeting of the International Society of Cerebral Blood Flow
and Metabolism was regularly awarded with early career travel bursaries. Recently,
she received an Ambizione grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation
to work as a Junior Group Leader at the University of Bern.
